The data and voice communication with military vehicles has very specifi c requirements. Besides the ”ordinary” functionality, the unit with all its components which is placed inside the vehicles has to fulfi l very specifi c temperature range as well as high shock and vibration resistance. Kontron’s customer used a 6U CPCI board with an Intel® Pentium® M processor and a compatible serial board. Providing a software operating platform, which is not any more used in today’s markets, but still validated for the military standards, was a must. INS engineers succeeded in fi nding missing pieces in the World Wide Web community, modifying, adapting, and testing, within just few weeks.
